SMK Sri Mersing dominated Carisbrook SMSS 7’s 2019 6th edition

CHERAS,Malaysia – Hundreds of people came to enjoy Carisbrook SMSS 7’s 2019 6th Edition in support of their school teams and family members. Foods and drinks prepared by the students club and a Carisbrook booth made the experience wholesome to enjoy rugby during weekends. Even muddied pitch did not stop the audience to enjoy exhilariting runs and dummies displayed throughout the tournament.

This year’s edition saw a new addition in Under-13 category where the objective is to give early exposure and playing time to new players. The tournament hosted about 64 teams spanning from the Under-11,Under-13, Under-14, Under-16 Girls Touch and Under-16 Boys category.

 Under-11 Touch Rimau Cup Category saw SK Lavender Heights,Negeri Sembilan crowned champion this year after coming third in cup category during last year’s edition.

SMK Jalan 3 from Bangi bagged home the Under-13 Cup trophy beating SBPI Jempol, Negeri Sembilan proving their excellence in nurturing talents from their Ragbi Rimau player pool. Nik Harith bin Midin from SMK Jalan 3 is a player to watch for in the future as he were awarded the Under-13 Best Player award.

SMK Seri Mersing,Johor managed to be crowned champion of the Under-16 Cup Category beating SBPI Gombak 24-12 while sweeping aside rugby stalwarts in the group stage and knockout rounds. Their Under-14 boys team also managed to be the runner up to King Edwards VII School in the Under-14 Cup Final losing 7-14. Cikgu Zul’s charges are making a name for themselves in Kuala Lumpur for the big teams to take notice after also winning VI Premier 10’s Under-15 Cup last April.

Under-16 Girls Touch

Sekolah Menengah Sains Hulu Selangor continues the trend of appearing in cup final this year but this time, with their Under-16 Girls Touch team. Aisyah Nurin of Semashur lead her team to beat host Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor with a scoreline of 1-0 to take home the cup and the Under-16 Girls Best player award.

Carisbrook SMSS 7’s 2019 6th edition proved to be a success laying out the grounds for future editions and will be a major contributor to Malaysia Sevens Squad as a platform for players to improve and compete in a healthy competitive environment.
